Melissa’s Story

I started this journey because a friend asked if I would join her on the 60 mile Breast Cancer 3Day a few months after both my mom and my aunt, my dad’s sister, were diagnosed with Breast Cancer and underwent treatment.  It also struck me that the walk this year starts on my mom’s birthday.  I have never regretted the decision for a minute.  In addition to the funds raised and awareness we are generating, I have experienced what I call the human factor that cannot be replicated. Strangers approach me when I am wearing my 3Day apparel and share their story.  I had one lady who was in the middle of her treatment plan for Stage 3 Breast Cancer tell me her story and then say that she would pray for me as I take this journey and do this walk.  WOW!  Um, doesn’t she have more important things to pray about, and shouldn’t I be the one praying? (which I am of course)  I am doing nothing compared to her fight.  She is not yet 40 years old and I met her in the pediatrician’s office.  Those 2 facts alone send chills down my spine.  I know that meeting someone who was fighting for her lifted her that day, and her story certainly gave me strength to keep walking and doing what I am doing.  I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea.
