Lisa’s Story

I am not sure where or how to start this.  The question of, “Why do you walk” has been asked of me several times and for me my main is reason is for my daughters.  I have truly been blessed in the fact we have not had a history of breast cancer in my immediate family.  However, what if the tides changed and my daughters were affected by it?  What if, when they marry, they have family members affected by it?

Two years ago, an ad appeared on television regarding the Breast Cancer 3-Day.  I briefly caught a glimpse of it, but it stuck with me.  A day later I was perusing through a magazine and again, an advertisement for the 3-Day.  I have always believed that God puts things in front of you for a reason and when I saw the ad a 3rd time I knew that this was something I needed to do.  I signed up (by myself, but thankfully a friend later joined me) and committed to do it.  What an amazing experience!  I had some very, very sore knees, loss of toe nails (gross I know), and too many blisters to count, but I quickly signed up for the 2008 walk.  This time I was able to find an unbelievable team, Team Tiara, and was blessed to meet some wonderful women.

Although I have not been touched by cancer within my family I have been touched by the effects the disease has.  I have met families who have lost loved ones due to breast cancer, I have met women who are currently battling it, and I have met survivors.  It’s time for this disease to go away.  It’s time to find a cure and each on of us is taking one step at a time (60 miles worth actually) and sending a message to breast cancer…we will beat you.

Love and blessings to all,

Lisa
