If you saw our story on Channel 2 and want to be a part of helping Team Tiara fight breast cancer, you’ve come to the right place!

This year marks the 5th year Team Tiara will be walking 60 miles in the Breast Cancer 3-Day.  To date, we have raised over $270,000 for breast cancer research and education.  Our goal for 2010 is to have 100 walkers on our team, and to raise $250,000. That would put us soundly past the $500,000 mark for our five years on the walk.

To Donate a Quilt to our Quilts for a Cure Campaign — Our Simply Pink Quilt Calendar and auction will raise a substantial amount of money to be applied to research, education and awareness campaigns.  If you’re a quilter, please read the next post to find out how you can be a part of this grassroots effort to stop breast cancer in its tracks.

To Walk with Team Tiara – This year our goal is to have 100 walkers on our team.  With that many walkers, we will raise at least $250,000.  Wouldn’t that be cool?  As a walker, you will be introduced to many “firsts.”  You’ll sleep in a pink tent, take showers in a converted semi trailer, dine on peanut butter and jelly graham cracker sandwiches and become an expert on blister care.  You will laugh at the kind of jokes only breast cancer survivors can come up with.  You’ll cry over people’s stories and share your own.  And in the process you’ll help raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research and education.  You can check out the Team Tiara website at www.the3day.org/goto/teamtiara.  Just click “Register to Join Team.”

To Sponsor Team Tiara – Without you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.  The money you donate goes directly to research, education, awareness and services….  You can donate online at www.the3day.org/goto/teamtiara.   Just click on the name of any team member, and follow the directions for donating.  You can donate by phone – just call 1-800-996-3329.  Ask the 3-Day staff member to apply your donation to any Team Tiara team member.  And of course, all donations are tax-deductible.

Corporate Sponsorships NeededTo walk, each team member is required to raise $2300.  Please consider helping us reach that mark and our $250,000 goal.  This is Promotional Fundraising at its finest!  We’ll promote your business while working to find a CURE!

Calling All Quilters!

August 2009 421

Hello Friends!

Please take a second to forward this to any quilters who you know.

We are so excited about our Quilts for a Cure project! Team Tiara is currently collecting pink quilts, and we need your help!

The quilts do not have to be a pink ribbon or breast cancer-related pattern — simply pink. They can be any size — from miniature on up to King-size.  They can be traditional, modern, crazy — you name it.  You can be an accomplished quilter or a beginner.   We simply need quilts that are as individual and different as the women and men who face breast cancer.

We plan to use many of the quilts we receive in a Quilts Calendar ready for sale before Mother’s Day.  The calendar will run May 2010 – December 2011.  Each “Artist’s Story” will be highlighted in the calendar.  You may be a survivor.  You may have lost a friend or family member to this disease.  You may just feel moved to help find a CURE.  Whatever your connection, we’d love to know about that.  If the quilt is submitted by a quilting circle, we need the names of everyone who worked on the quilt — as well as background on the circle.

We hope to display several of the quilts in quilt shops around the area — along with information about breast cancer and Team Tiara’s participation in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure.  We will also be doing a road show this summer to promote the quilts and the calendar.

All of the quilts will be auctioned online during the month of October — National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

As you can see, this calendar will offer Team Tiara two opportunities for fundraising — ongoing sales of our calendars, as well as the online auction in October.  We foresee this being a significant source of fundraising dollars for breast cancer research.

In addition to the fundraising angle, this program gives us an excellent opportunity to not just raise awareness about breast cancer, but to serve as a call to action of sorts — encouraging people to step up and take a role in the fight against this disease — whether as a walker or as a sponsor.

If you are interested in helping with this project, you can contact me at dlyn@teamtiara.net or by phone at 281-256-8067.  .

Thank you for helping us find a CURE.

I walk for my girls.

Immanuel. God With Us.

Today is one of ‘Those” days.

Not the kind where you’re stressed and running crazy — the kind people often complain about at Christmas time.

No… Today is the other kind of day. The kind where you are constantly bombarded with proof, real proof, that God is with you.

Today my friend Ruthie is fighting for her life in Sonora. Her daughter Kelly is one of my dearest friends, and I’d give anything to be by her side as she holds her Momma’s hand.

But I can’t be there. I can call her and text her and send love from afar — but today I can’t physically be there.

Instead, I’m at home in my kitchen, baking. Missing my Mom. A Lot. Listening to KSBJ and being constantly reminded that God IS with US. ALL of us. Constantly. Immanuel. HE is with us. He’s with Ruthie and Kelly and their entire family. And He always will be.

So in the midst of this day that’s been an off-and-on of tears and memories, I came in here to my computer for a second. I have my Momma’s Fresh Apple Cake in the oven. (With one exception — I use Buttah, not Crisco..) And I have a few minutes before that cake is done.

And I breezed by our TEAM site just to see if anyone’s earned that $500 end-of-year treat. AND I was ONCE AGAIN reminded that GOD is with us. Because Cinda Brown, Suzi Bruin, Aynne Daugherty, Becky Davis, Kori McEwen, Denise Meek and Michelle Olson just reached that mark — in a very big way — a way that can’t be interpreted as anything BUT GOD — yes, GOD — is with us.

So while a bunch of barnyard animals quack, baaa, and cluck their way through a Christmas carol on KSBJ, I want to take a moment to congratulate these chicks on reaching that $500 mark. AND to give them Whoo-Hoos!

Immanuel.. God is with us.

Big Hugs,
d.

The DFW 3-Day Topped $7.5 Million!

Wow!

We’re home from the DFW 3-Day, and I can’t even begin to share all that happened.  What an experience!  Each walker on this team had a completely different experience.  And I can say that after doing this walk four times, I’ve had four complete different walks.

For me, some of the highlights this year included:

* The drive to Dallas with four crazy women and a stray Pit Bull.  Okay, we just had the stray in the car for about 5 miles, but those were five miles when my truck was on Empty, and my nerves were frayed.

* A side trip by the American Girl store.  Wow.  What an amazing place.

* Meeting new friends and catching up with old ones!

* Watching Kayren, Lisa and Darla carrying flags at Opening Ceremonies.

* Spending much of my time walking with my dear friend Amy.

* Coming into camp with Cissa and Amy.

* Having our personal Consierge, Anthony, take care of us.

* Walking 20 miles in one day — on MY feet!

* The support of a remarkable team when I needed it most.

* Spending time in the Memory Tent and writing a letter to Mom to fill her in on life in Biggsville.

* Having a friend like Michelle who stuck by me even when I was slow and the going was tough.

* Having friends like Amy and Sherrie guarding the door while I peed in some pretty interesting locations!

* Celebrating with and for Cheri at the Finish Line.

* Doing the Conga Line at Holding.

Those are just a few of my favorite moments.  If you want to join us for those moments next year, and a bajillion more, you can register at www.the3day.org/goto/teamtiara.  Or you can register by phone at 1-800-996-3Day.  Either way, you can save $35 until November 23 by using the discount code “Power10.”

Wow….

This Sunday is Ministry Sunday at Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Fairfield.  AND they have asked Team Tiara to speak!!

Wow.

We often say this walk is 60 miles of ministry, but never in my wildest dreams did I think we would be invited into this type of a forum to share what we do.

It’s going to be short — we don’t have a lot of alloted time.  I’m amazed that they’re letting me speak at all.  YIKES.  I’m not known for keeping it short.

BUT….  How cool is this??  Our prayer, over and over, is that God will be glorified in each step we take and with each dollar we raise.  That we will be Jesus with skin on during this walk.

If you go to Good Shepherd, please don’t miss Sunday.  And if you’re going to be there, PLEASE wear pink!!!

You’ve Got Mail!

There’s nothing like a letter from a loved one to inspire you to keep going. If you’d like to write a letter to a 3-Day walker, it will be waiting in Camp at the end of the first day.
